Composers are so often working in their own heads, but with the commission from Equipoise, I was able to work with conductor Holly Dalrymple and the fantastic University of Wyoming students in the Bel Canto Chorus in a truly collaborative way. I gave them drafts, they worked on them returned them with suggestions. We went back and forth until it was finished. Talk about impact – all those young women learning their voices matter, their teachers matter, and art is best when collaborative.”

This financial assistance allowed the women of Bel Canto Women’s Chorus to fully participate in a most important event recognizing the 150th anniversary of Wyoming suffrage. Afterward, as we discussed their experience, they were so honored and proud to have represented the university. They felt the gravity of the event, and after viewing the documentary, had a more complete understanding of women’s suffrage and the work that’s gone before. We are very grateful!”
